CONVERGENCE brings together a collection of works by four contemporary painters who explore themes of transience and permanence, landscape and place through the medium of paint. Artist Mary Wilkinson invites viewers to consider ancient and remote landscapes through her atmospheric depictions that capture the transient qualities of the sea and land. Multi-disciplinary artist Claire Newman-Williams celebrates the inherent beauty found in the layers of existence, her paintings are a testament to the richness of history and the endless possibilities of the present moment. Artist Eloise Govier creates paintings rich in saturated colours that communicate the raw and immediate emotions entangled with the human condition. Artist Kate Kelvin explores quiet, atmospheric moments in nature, through textured and layered brushwork she captures a sense of place rather than a literal view. It is paint – as a medium of expression for all the artists – that becomes a place-maker for the convergence of unique styles and perspectives via the collision of mind, matter and form. Visitors are invited to spend time with this diverse and innovative celebration of contemporary painting.
