'An Abundance of Dahlias' 'Llawer o Dahliâu'

'An Abundance of Dahlias' 'Llawer o Dahliâu'
ABOUT
This bold painting features a red elongated jug filled with colourful dahlias. The shape of the flowers is inspired by the ‘Holyhill Spiderwoman’ variety that have long tubular petals. These spidery elongated shapes become a vehicle for an imagined colour palette of pink, red, purple, orange and chocolate brown. The striking abstraction of the flowers creates patterns of intertwined lacing and latticing, with the turquoise-aquamarine oils used to emphasise the complex flower forms. The palette knife marks add energetic movement, and combined with the complex patterning provide a great deal of momentum and intrigue for the viewer. The title playfully uses ‘abundance’ as a collective noun to emphasise the generosity and splendour of the bouquet.
