The ‘Dreaming Port Talbot’ painting is created on canvas and depicts the town Port Talbot in South Wales. The palette knife application of paint creates a textured canvas, with areas of impasto. The piece captures the town, steelworks and motorway. The cloud-like smoke emerging from the steelworks suggests activity and industry. The industrial structures do not meet the ground and instead appear floating, creating a dream-like quality to the depiction. As do the houses, which at times appear contorted and other-worldly. The shadows beneath the motorway flyover suggest a certain time of day, and the small windows of the houses are areas that reveal the undercoat of the painting, a rich orangey-red, that suggests a glow emerging from the homes. The rooftops, motorway, and steelworks are all depicted in hues of blue which creates a symbiosis between the different elements of the town.
